FAQ

Which distance is right for me?

If this is your first Spartan, the 5K Sprint or 5K Stadion is a great place to start. If this isn’t your first escapade at endurance racing then you may look at a more difficult challenge like the 10K Super or 21K Beast. Each distance increase comes with more obstacles, and endurance demands. Choose the distance that matches your current fitness level and your willingness to push beyond it.

Can I race with Friends?

Yes. You can race alongside friends in the OPEN heat and tackle the course side by side. If you want a more collaborative challenge, check out doubles racing heats where you and your teammate run the distance but switch off who takes each obstacle.

Which heat type should I select?

OPEN is best for first time racers and anyone focused on a challenge at your own pace. AGE GROUP and ELITE are competitive formats with stricter rules and rankings for experienced racers looking to test themselves against the fastest and strongest in OCR.

What if I can’t do an obstacle?

Every obstacle has a penalty if you cannot complete it. Penalties vary based on your race heat.

  • Competitive Elite and Age Group racers that are unable to complete "pass/fail" obstacles will be required to complete a penalty loop (Except when competing at a Stadion race where the penalty will remain as 15 burpees for all racers).
  • Non-competitive racers, that are unable to complete "pass/fail" obstacles will be required to complete a penalty of 30 burpees for OCR events and 15 burpees for Stadion races.
